Updated April 2022
CSD17 has been working on a Radon Mitigation Plan since 2019, when all district schools were tested. Radon systems have been installed in all necessary spaces at NBG and PP schools. TRS School is currently in the diagnostic phase and we expect all systems to be installed by the end of summer, 2022. CJHS had only one space that exceeded recommended numbers and that space will also be addressed.
Once all systems are operational, we will conduct another test and post the results to this page. We expect results to be posted in the fall of 2022.
If you have not had a radon test in your own home, we strongly encourage you to do so. It should be noted that the majority of potential radon exposure comes from the homes (70%), as that is where we spend most of our time. According to the IEMA, half of the homes tested in Channahon exceed the EPA action level of 4.0 pCi/L and the average reading in Channahon is 9.5 pCi/L. Fortunately, several solutions are readily available to help homeowners reduce radon levels.
