School Board Member Qualifications
All applicants for the Board vacancy must:
- Be a United States citizen
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a resident of Illinois and the District for at least one year immediately preceding the appointment
- Be a registered voter
- Not be a child sex offender
- Not hold another incompatible public office
- Not have a prohibited interest in any contract with the District
- Not be a school trustee
- Not hold certain types of prohibited State or federal employment
To become a school board candidate one must complete the following:
- File the following: A nominating petition signed by at least 50 registered voters or 10 percent of the voters, whichever is less; a Statement of Candidacy; a county clerk's receipt for the Statement of Economic Interests.
- Complete required Board Member training (after election or appointment).
- Annually file a Statement of Economic Interests with the county clerk and obtain a receipt (statement forms are available from the county clerk).
- Follow reporting rules in receiving or expending campaign funds.
